Bristol vs Warwick (uni & accommodation worries)? 've accepted Bristol and Warwick uni for next year, but am unsure which to go with. I know they are both good uni's, but I have absolutely no idea which has the better social life (I've heard Bristol is wayyy "rah" and Warwick is quite boring, and therfore both suck. Great.) Also, which halls are best for both? Does anyone have an opinion on either?! Please help a very confused future student!

How can somebody lie dead for 5-8 years without anyone missing him? A man in his 70's has been found dead in sheltered accommodation in Bristol. They put the smell down to 'poor personal hygene'. I think it is disgusting nobody missed him. 'His family have been informed, they live in the area'. what kind of family is that, they can't have been to see him for over a decade! I has just been on our local news. I would have posted a link but the web site has not been updated yet.
Bristol University Halls? Which are the best? I'm thinking of going to Bristol Uni in October. Just looking at the accommodation now but I'm unsure of which ones to choose. I'll be taking Biochemistry. I like sports and I'm a fussy eater. Which halls are nearest to a Tesco's? And, is the catered food as bad as it is reputed to be? Thanks in advance for your help :)

How Do You Arrange for Temporary Acommodation In Bristol, UK from Canada? Hi, there. I plan on moving to Bristol, England from Canada this spring. I won't have a job when I arrive, but do have UK citizenship. I've taken into account that I will have to support myself for several months while looking for employment, but am wondering how to set things up so that when I get off the plane at Bristol airport, I can go straight to temporary accommodation (not a hotel) . I'm not wealthy, so I'm hoping I can get affordable, reasonably nice (not roach infested and safe) temporary housing, while I look for work. I'll be searching for work all across the UK and am prepared for it to take 3-4 months for me to find a good job. Any suggestions on how to set something up from here?

What do you think ? "Women sells virginity on eBay "? Rosie Reid, 18, from London, decided to auction her virginity on the auction site eBay in order to avoid graduating with huge debts. The Bristol University social policy student says she would rather sleep with a stranger than face years of comparative poverty. Ms Reid put herself on offer earlier in January and received more than 400 offers within three days, including one of £10,000. On the eve of a Commons vote on higher education funding, more than 250 students in the city demonstrated in an attempt to persuade MPs to vote against top up fees. Can Okar, President of the University's Union, said: "We hope to keep the vote at the forefront of the minds of MPs. "We want them to vote with their conscience. Education is too important to get tied up with politics." Speaking about Ms Reid, he said: "We would never condone anyone putting themselves into a dangerous position. "It is a great stunt but this is a serious issue and this student is setting a bad example to others." Commons vote Ms Reid said: "It started as a joke, and ended up as 'why not?' "I am devoting too much time to paid employment and not enough to studying. I am not achieving as much as I could." The student from Dulwich currently works lengthy hours in order to pay for tuition fess and living accommodation in Bristol. "I'll leave university £15,000 in debt. That's why I am taking this drastic action." On Tuesday, Parliament is due to vote on top up fees with several rebel Labour MPS threatening to vote against the government. Auction website eBay has withdrawn the offer, although Ms Reid says she will continue the auction on her own website.
Tony Blair's expenses - how come? MPs with constituencies outside London get an allowance (of up to £20,000) for accommodation in London, because they also need to have a property in their constituency and it's fair enough that they shouldn't have to pay for 2 homes. No argument there. But Tony Blair has a FREE house in London (that one with the big black door and the chippy neighbour) - yet he's allowed to also claim £16,417 for his constituency home in Sedgefield. So he's not paying for ANY houses (apart from his £3.6 million mansion in Connaught Square and Euan's flats in Bristol, of course, but they're not the taxpayer's problem). So no accommodation costs (other than ones he CHOOSES to incur) for a man earning over 100 grand a year. Where's the logic in that? I'm not being politically biased - I'd be as annoyed if it was Dave Cameron (if Whitney were far enough away to qualify) or Sir Ming. I'm just piased against politicians and for the taxpayers they merrily fleece. "piased" is an accidental neologism, of course - but quite a fortuitous blend of two concepts, don't you think And I also know Witney doesn't have an h. Houston? I have a typing problem.
Do you think I'm being scammed ? I've advertised a room for rent on Craigslist. A women form S.Africa has responded saying she is coming to England for a 6month media course with the BBC in Bristol. She wants to send me SA$3000 in advance and then I'm to purchase her airline tickets and deduct a months rent......here's the e-mail.......... ******About payment: I intend arriving 10 december. My 1 month Voice grooming at the local BBc radio at Bristol start 5th January 2010. Probs is ive been granted a $3,000 travel cheque (equivalent £1,700GBP) to pay for my accommodation and flight ticket inclusive. It was supposed to be arranged by agency. I found that most UK agencies charge exhobitant handling fees! And their room rent per month or week are killing too. So im left with you to help. So what i plan doing is asking my ceo to re-issue it in your name for payment of rents/deposit. Ofcourse it will include money for my flight ticket. Thus after you deduct your rent amount, you will give £700GBP to the SAA agency to book my flight from your side. Simply go cash the cheque from the airport or any uk post office. My time is close at hand, very near. If you are willing , let me call you to explain further. Or simply give me name to issue it in and address to send it by courier on or before banking hours of Friday. Is it okay? ******* Is it some sort of scam? Moneylaundering perhaps ? I know it's a scam.....I'm just wondering exactly how they benefit. I don't quite get how they make money. What good are the air tickets?
University residence vs. flat? I'm going to do a masters in Bristol. I'm an international student. Should I stay at one of the university residences or should I make an early trip to look for independent lodging (i.e. getting an apartment with a room/flat mate)? My instinct tells me that I should go throught the hassle of finding my own accommodation as living in a residence might feel like going to boarding school (not that I'm criticizing but I'm 25 so...). However, living in a residence might have its advantages; the internet is set up, there is a laundry room in the building, I'm close to my classes and it might even be easier to make friends. So I guess the question is; what pro's and con's can you come up with? Why should I rent a flat or why should I go to the residence? (Bear in mind I'm an international student). I'd like the practical feedback of people who have been in my shoes or who have a son or daughter that has been in my situation, not random advice like "do what you prefer." There are three types of residences 1. residences for undergrads (obviously off limits to me), 2. residences for both undergrad and post-grad and 3. residences for postgrads only. (So I could actually be amongst postgraduate students and not freshers/freshmen if I wanted) By the way, the duration of the programme is one year.
Where to go on holiday along the southwest coast of england? Me and my friends are all 16 and about to finish the GCSE year in England. The majority of our year group are going on a short break before they return for college to a place called newquay which lies very far down in cornwall along the southwest coast. Here's the thing: The 'populars' are heading to newquay so me and my friends wanted to go somewhere separate. There are 8 guys and 6 girls. We want to go somewhere in the southwest for around 4 nights. We are thinking along the lines of youth hostels for accommodation. Does anyone know of some relatively cheap youth hostels near a beach which is in a sensible distance to get to from bristol (in terms of train fares)

Bristol Airport accommodation... 6 weeks? I need to find some affordable accommodation as close to Bristol Airport as possible. I will be in Bristol from Monday 19 July for around 6 weeks. Can anybody recommend hotels, bed & breakfasts, flats or apartments close to the airport? I am not looking for random links that I could quite easily have found myself on Google. If somebody has experience of particular accommodation and can provide rates etc, I'll give them the 'Top Answer' later today.
Life at Warwick univeristy? I am almost certain I want to go to Warwick (to do Law btw). When I went on the open day, I fell in love with it. I have an offer from Warwick and also from Exeter, Cardiff and Sussex. I'm waiting for Bristol. My main question: is Warwick fun? I really want a good social/night life and I know Warwick has a reputation for being a bit antisocial... BUT the SU is supposed to be amazing and i know that it's having an £11 million makeover (or something huge like that) this year. I love clubbing but I don't need hundreds of clubs. I have only visited Warwick and Sussex and Nottingham (didn't apply to nottingham - too far and didn't really like it). If I get an offer from Bristol, I should probably visit it but I'm quite fixed on a campus uni atm. Is there such thing a a good social/night life at a campus uni? And are the people going to be as fun? Or are all the people at Warwick boring?!! (only saying what I've heard! Not what I think - I have know idea!) What are the people like? Opinions from people actually at Warwick please - people who are there (and hopefully having fun!) How often do you go out and where? What's the public transport like at night? How much does it cost? Do you ever go to Birmingham on a night out or shopping trip? Don't get me wrong...I LOVE the idea of a campus uni but I want to have fun too... ALSO... accommodation... I've heard Rootes is the most fun?

First year university student, but i want to change university and be a first year student again? I am currently a 1st year student at Bristol UWE studying Business Studies With Marketing, and i'm a few weeks away from finishing my 1st year. However, i want to change course to Marketing (on its own), which i want to do at Plymouth University. If i stayed at UWE to finish my degree, i would most probably split with my dedicated and amazing girlfriend (of 18 months), as well as live with 2 mates which i do not want to be stuck with, since they are not keen to make new friends, which i want to do. I also was not present in freshers week and have made minimal attempt to go to lectures and tutorials this year so i have made little to no friends here. If i move to plymouth, i can live with my girlfriend which i know will make me a better hardworking person, as well as my best mate who will go 2 Plymouth uni at the same time. In addition, it's closer to family and where i live. I really want to go Plymouth uni and start my first year in the way that i didn't do in my freshers week and first year at UWE, so that i finally feel really happy and make friends. Although, i would incur wasted expenditure on my first year at UWE; tuition fee loan, money from parents to live on, and £3000 accommodation fees from my parents. Am i being selfish or bad by wanting to become a first year again where i will be much much much more happier than i am now? Or are the costs just too high seeing as i will have to redo the whole year at another uni and on another course. Please help me! Thank you... =]
