Is the Press harming Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston's reputations? Sarah Palin claims all the press reportsl "harm Bristol's reputation and Levi's reputation" . It sure seems like Sarah's own decisions placed these two in the limelight. Bristol and Levi are adults. I have not seen the press report anything but the actions these two adults trake. I do not agree that the press picks only on conservative children. there was not a lot of coverage of the Bush girl's antics, and the press totally laid off Jenna's abortion. Republican pundits routinely attack the children of liberals. McCain went after Chelsea Clintoin when she was a child, Limbaugh and Hannity attack the Obama children on a regular basis. If I had a daughter pregnant out of wedlock, I would not pursue a high visibility position. My job as a parent is more important to me than any other consideration.
Would the press and lefties like Bristol Palin more if...? A. She gets an abortion B. She remains an unwed mother, or C. She applies for all the welfare services possible and becomes dependent on the State. I don't know...maybe some other answer is right. Normally, the left is wild about teens that are in this predicament. Something is different with this teen.
So when will the Bristol Palin - Levi Johnson wedding take place? If she's due in December, they'll want to have it before then so that the baby isn't born out of wedlock. Any chance it will occur BEFORE the elections? Will it be a big, fancy wedding? Will the press be invited? Will Sarah Palin be there with a shotgun to make sure the guy goes through with it?
Is it true that bristol and levi have been removed from their high school without graduation?...? ...If so why? This was in a press release. Elsewhere it was reported Bristol is now home schooled,( we know her mother is a great believer in such schooling. The mother of Levi in an interview admitted he is no longer in school but gave no info about his further education. As a high school dropout will he able to support his impending family? I would like to know why this happened, what pressures if any were put on the boy to abandon his education?.
I've just moved to Bristol, England- does this city have as rich a history as London? When I was a small boy I grew up in London and loved researching the city's history, particularly the darker aspects; crime, punishment, riots, controversy etc. Then I moved with my family to deepest, darkest Dorset. I've just left home and ended up in Bristol, with a flat just off of Gloucester Road (the Horfield end). First off, I know Bristol has a very, very rich history- but how does it shape up compared to London? Does it have the same dark roots that I could explore? I presume the slave trade is a good place to start, but apparently the woods near Horfield were also a favourite hideout for robbers and highwaymen back in the old days. Which is the best library in Bristol to conduct this sort of research, and whereabouts is there that I can visit in the flesh? Please note, I'm after the city's darker history. Anything relating to famous crimes here, press-gangers, massacres, notorious riots or prisons, plagues, red-light districts. I just love researching this side of things to see the foundations that our modern world is built on, and I like connecting with the ghosts of a forgotten past. Any serious help welcome!
Why did Levi Johnston decide to talk to the press? Seems a bit late to be giving an interview to the press since no one is even talking about him and Bristol anymore. Of course the McCain campaign had to allow this interview to take place. Why now? Is it another way to distract the American people? Seems kind of convenient that this "positive" image of Levi comes out just after the Sarah Palin troopergated findings and McCain's low ratings. What do you think? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081013/ap_on_el_pr/palin_wasilla_heartthrob
Where is the best place in Bristol, UK to go out for dessert??? Me and my friends sometimes go out for dessert instead of for dinner - we're trying to find a place in Bristol which is famed for its desserts - I know there is somewhere because I rememberit being in the press a couple of years ago..... but any recommendations will be welcomed!
Why are people obsessed with Bristol Palin having a baby? This was noted in People magazine??! The Vice President's daughter, Ashley, was caught on videotape snorting lines of cocaine. Why isn't the liberal press reporting on this at all? http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article5998685.ece
Will Palin Press Charges on Levi Johnston? ? Will Sara Palin press charges against Levi Johnston, Bristol Palin's 18 year old boyfriend who got her pregnant? Johnston is a drop out at Wasilla high school. Will Palin set an example for other Americans that it IS NOT okay to let adult men have sex with your underage teenage daughter?
When will coward Palin finally face the Press and answer questions? ? What does she believe in? What are her stances on the issues? Why isn't the Mayor of El Paso just as qualified to be one heartbeat away from the Presidency as she is, since El Paso has just as many people as Alaska? Does she really believe that there is no global warming? That gay people can be "cured" through prayer? That God instructed us to go into Iraq? That women should have absolutely no choice whatsoever regarding pregnancies? That only abstinence should be taught in schools? (Ooops! Sorry, Bristol!!)
Are there any epidemiology students or professors on Yahoo Answers? Article that has gotten no press.? http://jech.bmj.com/cgi/content/abstract/60/10/851 This is an article from the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health from a group at the University of Bristol, UK that has so far gotten no press. It is on public health consequences of advanced paternal age the whole article is not free unfortunately. If you read the article, please comment. thanks I guess you are right I shouldn't be suprised. I just thought that the press in the UK would pick it up for discussion. I guess I was wrong. Thank you. Gumdrop girl - thank you I'd love it if you would post a blurb about this article. I think it would important. Where will you post this???
Bristol Palin Baby Daddy...? Yahoo reports that Levi Johnston will drop out of high school to get a job working the "north slope" in anticipation of their baby. Doesn't it seem the grandparents would assist the kids enough for him to atleast finish school? I mean, his mother-in-law to be is the Governor. Surely, they can work out something so that he can get his high school diploma. I'm pretty sure Bristol won't drop out to get a job. The article seems a little weird. Levi is talking to the Associated Press? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081013/ap_on_el_pr/palin_wasilla_heartthrob
Is Bristol Palin really Trigs mother? Sarah's explanation seems unlikely. ? from this site: Palins birth story is unlikely because: 1. Never looked pregnant, and did look pregnant with the other 4 kids 2. With her water breaking, she missed 3 opportunities to go to a hospital 3. Didn't take extra care, but she knew the kid had Downs. 4. Bristol was missing from school for a long time. 5. The doctor who ALLEGEDLY delivered the baby, owes Palin for her govt. job. 6. The doctor who ALLEGEDLY delivered the baby, is no birth specialist but a MENTAL health doctor. 7. The doctor who ALLEGEDLY delivered the baby, made a brief statement about it all and the hospital director never spoke to the press. http://www.palindeception.com/ from the site: =======begin quote======= =================== I've been investigating this for nearly a month now, and I cannot say that I know for sure what happened in Palmer Alaska on April 18th 2008. But as a medical professional who has spent much of my life around childbearing women I can state this with confidence: Her birth story is utterly absurd, a tale of an implausible series of ridiculous choices. If you want to call it "a lie," be my guest. No 44 year old woman, pregnant for the fifth time with a special-needs child would make the decisions she made, and no doctor would support them. She traveled out of state during the 35th week of her pregnancy. After experiencing premature rupture of membranes and some contractions, she waited nearly ten hours to give a speech then traveled nearly twelve hours more, taking two separate flights both of which had flight times of around four hours, with a layover of approximately two hours in between. Expected duration of labor for someone with Gov. Palin's history (four previous vaginal births) would be 6 hours +/- 3.6 hours. It was not only "possible" that she would give birth long before she arrived back in Alaska, it was probable. And, while it's just barely believable that she would remain at a conference and wait to give a speech she was "determined to give" (since a modern hospital was only minutes away), there's no way one can apply this same reasoning to her subsequently getting on an airplane for two separate four-hour flights. Yet, after somehow beating the statistics on the flights, once arriving in Anchorage, she did not drive to the only hospital in the state (Providence) with a neonatal intensive care unit (six miles from the airport) where her doctor had privileges. Instead, she drove an hour to a small regional health facility (only 39 beds in the whole hospital). By the time she arrived there, she met five high-risk obstetric criteria: *she was 44 (anything above 40(some sources say 37 or 39)) is considered high-risk due to maternal age; * she was carrying a known high-risk infant; *she was considered "grand multiparous" (five or more viable pregnancies); * she was in labor at 35-36 weeks (anything before 37 weeks is considered pre term); * her amniotic sac had been ruptured nearly 24 hours. Yet, the hospital that she is reported to have given birth at does no high risk obstetrics at all; even twins are not allowed to be born there. She had as her physician a family practice doctor who is reported on the hospital's web site as having done only three births in the previous two years! None of these choices makes sense. Taken all together, it's ridiculous. And, to repeat, we're also supposed to believe that somewhere there is a doctor who went along with all this. With this as the "starting point," then you have to start looking at all the other coincidences. Any one of these items, alone, could be easily shrugged off. Without a birth story that resembles Mr. Toad's Wild Ride more than anything else, one of two of these would beinsignificant. But, all of this together? What are the chances? =======end quote======= @Rayne Storm If she lied about it, she probably was wearing a pregnant suit, or simply some sorta pillow. That photo proves nothing. How do we know its not photoshopped taken when she was preg with another kid? We don't. All of the facts mentioned are not denied by Palin @Malcolm Equis not irrelevant, she still has control or huge influence over millions of Alaskans dollars ....
Can Bristol Palin qualify to Debut at the International Debutante Ball in NYC? NYC just had it's bi-annual International Debutante Ball, for daughters of porminent families and aristocratic families. None of whom seem to have had more press coverage than the Palins this year. Arianna Huffington founder of Huffington Post had a daughter make her Debut at the International Deb Ball this week. So with those standards. Does Bristol qualify? Or, if her unwed teen pregnancy high-school dropout status disqualify her, will her sisters Willow and Piper qualify for an invitation in the future? Providing they make it to 21 without a baby bump, of course. Yes, I know Bristol is allegedly engaged to Levi, but I've never seen an engagement ring. Yes, I know Bristol is allegedly engaged to Levi, but I've never seen an engagement ring on her hand.
How much is my pressed glass worth? I have 4 small pressed glass goblet looking things that are tinted green. They are Bristol and I was wondering how much they would be worth.
For a self-described "barracuda" and "pit-bull with lipstick", Palin sure is easily "victimized" by the press.? isn't she? Simply the act of asking her a question, and the McCain camp, in a hysterical, over-the-top fashion, accuses you of sexism and unfairly picking on a poor little woman. You'd think they were trying to hide her from the press or something. By the way, cons, none of the TV news media and the newspapers haven't bashed Bristol, only the bloggers. But even if they did, wouldn't you expect someone who might become president should anything happen to McCain be able to take the heat? If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. America's enemies sure won't respect Palin's "needs". How can she possibly deal with them if she can't even deal with America's reporters?
Is anyone else looking forward to the VP debates as much as I am? After watching Palin's recent interviews, now I see why McCain has been hiding her away from the press. She can't even coherently respond to a few softball questions from Katie Couric. Anyone else looking forward to watching Biden completely stomp her next Thursday? (That is unless Bristol conveniently "miscarries" right before the debate and Palin has to rush home. Wouldn't be surprised.)

Has anyone seen Bristol's engagement ring? I've looked at photos and she doesn't seem to have one. Is the marital commitment between these two high-school dropout teens a serious one or just something for the press? It was the McCain-Palin Campaign that made the first mention of a marriage when it issued a statement about the pregnancy. Otherwise, it's only been Sherry "Jailbird" Johnston who detailed the young couple's intentions to the press. Sarah Palin has only discussed it in passing in talking about her political stance. I've yet to hear the Palins issue a formal engagement announcement / photo or see anything that suggests these nuptials are going to happen.
Don't you think Levi, (Bristol Palin's baby's daddy), should have stayed in school? ? I was reading in an article today about an interview Levi gave the associated press. Levi said he dropped out of school in anticipation of the baby in December. Shouldn't he have stayed in school. I don't think the situation warranted him dropping out. He can work after school hours to save money for the baby or he can double up on courses and graduate early. Could this be a difference in culture between Alaska and more populated areas of the US? The article made it sound like he felt he was doing an honorable thing by dropping out.
I am curious as to how most people feel about David Letterman's comments/jokes about Bristol Palin? I am stunned and ashamed at the disgraceful double standard that has developed in our country! It is perfectly acceptable to degrade, vilify, and slander any Conservative without ramification or consequences while the slightest hint of criticism of a Liberal or Minority brings a chorus of outrage or cries of racism! Examples: Miss California Sarah Palin/family Nancy Pelosi and CIA 'The View' any time E. Hasselbeck speaks The men's collage lacroos team/ rape dancer Don Imus/woman's collage basketball The press coverage of Obama and Bush Sorry, it was Willow not Bristol. I can't believe that some people think it is less vile to make the comment about a 14 yr. old than an 18yr. old.
Is Levi Johnson under Secret Service Protection? Has the Department of Homeland security certified a Secret Service detail for Levi Johnson, the 18 year old boyfriend of Bristol Palin, and the young man's mother Sherry? US reporters have camped outside Sherry Johnston's house in Alaska, and the press is tightly scrutinizing the couple with teams of photographers and cameraman at the ready. International media organizations from BBC World and Al Jazeera English have dispatched journalist and photographers to track Levi down.
Why do the rich commit suicide? Something to think about: Fame, success, power and wealth cannot escape the grips of suicidal thoughts. The death of Amschel Mayor James Rothschild, ruled an apparent suicide, left the wealthy and powerful Rothschild family of Europe without a leader. Rothschild was to become the head of N.M. Rothschild & Sons Ltd. The family, which values privacy, has been unable to avoid press coverage. Rothschild committed suicide in July 1996. He was found hanged at the Hotel Bristol in Paris. The suicide came hours after a meeting, during which plans were discussed for a massive merger of asset management companies. His death was originally reported as being due to a heart attack. Some conspiracy theorists believe that Rothschild was actually strangled. What do you think happened? Was it suicide? If so why would he commit suicide? Or are you throwing in with the conspiracy theorists? *Note: Some people think suicide is just a self-pity trip for those that are uneducated, poor, self-esteem without doing real research on this issue. There are several prominent people in history that has committed suicide. *Conspiracy Theories are considered laughable by the mainstream media but some people cannot believe Amschel killed himself. The Rothschild family has had other 'suicides' as well: Charles Rothschild (October 12, 1923) A.M. Rothschild (July 29, 1902) Another famous suicide: Winifred Rockefeller (March 15, 1951)
Is John McCain a hypocrite? John McCain is asking the press to lay of Bristol Palin because she is not running for office. However back in 1998, McCain had this tasteless joke about Chelsea Clinton. "Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno." Chelsea was around the same age as Bristol is now. Why was Chelsea considered "fair game" in 1998, but Bristol is not in 2008? Does anyone else here see the hypocrisy? Or is it just me? McCain's "joke" is part of the public record and was reported by a few papers and the Associated Press. http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2006/7/5/00548.shtml
So what 'body of research' on global warming was Dr Knorr referring to then? In a response to another question, Pegminer took me to task for suggesting that Dr Knorr's study undermines the IPCC climate models and says "in fact this study says NOTHING about the IPCC models used to predict warming, " Here are the two relevant quotes, what do you think? Was my assumption a fair one? From the IPCC 2007 report, Working Group 1 available at http://www.ipcc.ch/publications_and_data/ar4/wg1/en/ch10s10-4.html " This section starts from these impacts to infer the feedback effect on atmospheric CO2 and therefore on the climate system. There is unanimous agreement among the models that future climate change will reduce the efficiency of the land and ocean carbon cycle to absorb anthropogenic CO2, essentially owing to a reduction in land carbon uptake. The latter is driven by a combination of reduced net primary productivity and increased soil respiration of CO2 under a warmer climate. As a result, a larger fraction of anthropogenic CO2 will stay airborne if climate change controls the carbon cycle. " From the UoB press release available at: http://bristol.ac.uk/news/2009/6649.html "The results run contrary to a significant body of recent research which expects that the capacity of terrestrial ecosystems and the oceans to absorb CO2 should start to diminish as CO2 emissions increase, letting greenhouse gas levels skyrocket." EDIT - @ Linlyons- it's complicated as I originally believed in AGW (as early as '90 /'91 but gradually stopped believing, largely because of the ludicrously wild and irrational statements from supposed 'scientists' (Google "sir david king antarctic only place to live" for one such example). Also because there are questions to be answered and a debate which needs to take place and it made me wonder why - on such a monumental topic - this was not happening. If the arguments of the sceptical scientists don't add up then why are they not putting them on TV for a live debate to show this to everyone? I am *not* an idealogue, and I enjoy reading, thinking and participating honestly with the other posters. I'm not here to prove a point or to simply shout as loud as possible and i'm sure you're not here for that either. @ Pegminer - My apologies - i haven't even checked my profile since i set the account up. I will do so. My point was simply that my interpretation was not unreasonable.
Has anyone else heard of the new trend? That because of Palin's daughter, pregnant teenagers are now "out and proud" of their bumps...walking around school pregnant and happy etc. (And noooooo, I am NOT saying they should get rid of their babies...not at all....) But, Bristol walks around in fashionable clothes, press take pictures, and kids want to be like her! They want to get pregnant as a teenager like their idol's daughter...Palin. Is this worrying? Its like Bristol has set an example to have unprotected sex, and get knocked up! I mean... alright for a daughter of some one wealthy... but what about the kids that will have their education ruined? (Reported in The Guardian Newspaper UK) And I am not judgeing just curious of your thoughts on this .... I am saaaaying, boy I see the sense of humour thing is still null and void, that unprotected sex and being a teenager and wanting to get pregnant are dangerous things for kids to aspire too... I dont care about marriage... I care about their schooling. than ks for the clip scuambo..hilrarious! Robinson, just go to Guardian UK and click on uS elections... loads of stories but myt copy past thingy isnt working properly... Its a concern for womens rights
How to preserve works made/involving gouache? When I use gouache, it's either a little added to a black and white drawing/sketch/page or part of a mixed media piece with watercolor. I use either bristol board of some kind or cold press illustration board. I did some research and all I found was someone recommending to frame works make with gouache, because the paint is water soluble (which I discovered on my own when I went to touch up a piece and when water got on it half the color dissolved and my heart almost failed). It just doesn't seem practical to me to frame every single thing I do with gouache, as most of it is not frame-worthy and too much of a hassle when it comes to storing the work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
BIRMINGHAM: Sick of the Lies & Insults? Right. I'm sick of Birmingham being slated all the time. I know Liverpool gets this problem as well. Facts: Lowest Crime Rate of all British Cities Wipes the floor with other cities on the GCSE league tables Best Social Housing Awards Lowest Un-Employment out of the big 10 Birmingham is actually better than most places, it's got more Parkland than any other city, big wide open dual carriageways, Museams, Best Shopping outside of London, Brummies are Friendly, and I think the area around Brindley Place and Broad St is one of the nicest areas of a City Centre in this country. Hull, Glasgow, Cardiff, Sheffield - NOW THAT'S SQUALOR. And besides the Centre Manchester & London are a bit third world too. So Leave Birmingham, Liverpool, Newcastle & Bristol alone. They get far too much bad press. And they're effing brill. Anyone else agree/disagree? Anyone from Outside of Birmingham been here recently and have views? And just to clear things up. The Birmingham Accent is understandable, Unique, and is clear. You try understanding someone from Glasgow or Belfast, At least we can say the letter 'H', and dont eliminate vowels to things like " t' park " ¬¬ (evils)
Was Sarah Palin forced to admit her 17 year old daughter is pregnant? NEW YORK In a surprise announcement, the McCain campaign revealed today that Sarah and Todd Palin have announced that their 17-year-old unmarried daughter Bristol is pregnant. The couple said in a statement that Bristol will keep the baby. When news broke, it had not yet been reported by her home state papers, which have often been the source for outside media for other background on Palin. When the Anchorage Daily News did report the news today, it pointed out: "The Daily News had asked Palin's press secretary, Bill McAllister, over the weekend to address rumors that Bristol was pregnant. 'I don't know. I have no evidence that Bristol's pregnant,' he said on Saturday." The McCain team asserted that he knew about the pregnancy when he selected Palin. She has five children and now a grandchild coming as she hits the campaign trail. She and the campaign also are asking that the media respect the family's privacy on this matter. Their statement continued: "We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support." Steve Schmidt, a top McCain spokesman, said: "Life happens." The Anchorage Daily News reported earlier today that rumors had abounded in the state for months that Bristol Palin was pregnant. This turned out to be true, but what it fostered was other rumors that she was the real mother of Sarah Palin's fifth child, who was delivered in April.
For a so-called "barracuda" and "pit-bull with lipstick", Palin sure is thin-skinned, isn't she? Asking Palin to speak to the press is now considered "victimization"? What kind of pitbull is too scared to answer questions from the press? We're not even talking about questions about Bristol either. She's avoiding answering questions about policy issues. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/10/halperin-on-palin-stop-th_n_125336.html "The other three people who are on the national ticket have been scrutinized for months and in cases, years. We've got less than 60 days to do this. We'd better get about doing it. And if she doesn't cooperate in that more than she has, the public should be told that clearly."
Banksy unmasked? He has been outed as a Bristol public school type. Is anyone surprised that it was the Mail that pushed their slimy noses into his privacy? If he wants to be a private person, then why not? Why do these reptiles and scum in the press do these things? Blimey Heather, the Mail has always been a middle class tabloid!
Is McCain just a crybaby? Is he too thin-skinned? http://thinkprogress.org/2008/09/02/mccain-cancel-cnn/ Yesterday, Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds appeared on CNN for an interview with Campbell Brown. Brown was tough on Bounds, refusing to let him spout typical campaign talking points. ... Today, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer revealed that because of that tough interview, the McCain campaign has canceled the senator’s appearance on Larry King Live tonight. ... The McCain campaign has repeatedly tried to intimidate the press. It is now angry about media coverage of Bristol Palin’s pregnancy, calling NBC’s reporting on it “irresponsible journalism.” Campaign staffers “even considered pulling out of one of the three presidential debates because it would be moderated by Tom Brokaw, a former NBC News anchorman.” When Newsweek wrote a cover story in May examining the hardball tactics conservatives might use in the general election, the McCain campaign “threatened to throw the magazine’s reporters off the campaign bus and airplane.”
like how you can't mention sarah's kids, but you pay for their vacations? By BRETT J. BLACKLEDGE, ADAM GOLDMAN and MATT APUZZO, Associated Press Writers Brett J. Blackledge, Adam Goldman And Matt Apuzzo, Associated Press Writers 18 mins ago ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Gov. Sarah Palin charged the state for her children to travel with her, including to events where they were not invited, and later amended expense reports to specify that they were on official business. The charges included costs for hotel and commercial flights for three daughters to join Palin to watch their father in a snowmobile race, and a trip to New York, where the governor attended a five-hour conference and stayed with 17-year-old Bristol for five days and four nights in a luxury hotel. In all, Palin has charged the state $21,012 for her three daughters' 64 one-way and 12 round-trip commercial flights since she took office in December 2006. In some other cases, she has charged the state for hotel rooms for the girls. Alaska law does not specifically address expenses for a governor's children. The law allows for payment of expenses for anyone conducting official state business. As governor, Palin justified having the state pay for the travel of her daughters — Bristol, 17; Willow, 14; and Piper, 7 — by noting on travel forms that the girls had been invited to attend or participate in events on the governor's schedule. But some organizers of these events said they were surprised when the Palin children showed up uninvited, or said they agreed to a request by the governor to allow the children to attend. Several other organizers said the children merely accompanied their mother and did not participate. The trips enabled Palin, whose main state office is in the capital of Juneau, to spend more time with her children. "She said any event she can take her kids to is an event she tries to attend," said Jennifer McCarthy, who helped organize the June 2007 Family Day Celebration picnic in Ketchikan that Piper attended with her parents. State Finance Director Kim Garnero told The Associated Press she has not reviewed the Palins' travel expense forms, so she could not say whether the daughters' travel with their mother would meet the definition of official business. On Aug. 6, three weeks before Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain chose Palin his running mate, and after Alaska reporters asked for the records, Palin ordered changes to previously filed expense reports for her daughters' travel. In the amended reports, Palin added phrases such as "First Family attending" and "First Family invited" to explain the girls' attendance. "The governor said, 'I want the purpose and the reason for this travel to be clear,'" said Linda Perez, state director of administrative services. When Palin released her family's tax records as part of her vice presidential campaign, some tax experts questioned why she did not report the children's state travel reimbursements as income. The Palins released a review by a Washington attorney who said state law allows the children's travel expenses to be reimbursed and not taxed when they conduct official state business. Taylor Griffin, a McCain-Palin campaign spokesman, said Palin followed state policy allowing governors to charge for their children's travel. He said the governor's office has invitations requesting the family to attend some events, but he said he did not have them to provide. In October 2007, Palin brought daughter Bristol along on a trip to New York for a women's leadership conference. Plane tickets from Anchorage to La Guardia Airport for $1,385.11 were billed to the state, records show, and mother and daughter shared a room for four nights at the $707.29-per-night Essex House hotel, which overlooks Central Park. The event's organizers said Palin asked if she could bring her daughter. Alexis Gelber, who organized Newsweek's Third Annual Women & Leadership Conference, said she does not know how Bristol ended up attending. Gelber said invitees usually attend alone, but some ask if they can bring a relative or friend. Griffin, the campaign spokesman, said he believes someone with the event personally sent an e-mail to Bristol inviting her, but he did not have it to provide. Records show Palin also met with Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Goldman Sachs representatives and visited the New York Stock Exchange. In January, the governor, Willow and Piper showed up at the Alaska Symphony of Seafood Buffet, an Anchorage gala to announce winners of an earlier seafood competition. "She was just there," said James Browning, executive director of Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation, which runs the event. Griffin said the governor's office received an invitation that was not specifically addressed to anyone. When Palin amended her children's expense reports, she listed a role for the two girls at the function — "to draw two separate raffle tickets." In the original travel form, Palin listed a number of events that
What would everyone be saying if a Democratic candidate's teenager was pregnant? I'm guessing the dialog would be about the permissiveness of Democratic parenting, how condoms promote promiscuity, etc. etc. I really doubt anyone would be saying that it makes the candidate seem "just like one of us." Why is that the sentiment toward Palin? I doubt there would be any sympathy for a pregnant teenage daughter of a Democratic presidential contender. (P.S. Just be clear, I'm not criticizing Bristol Palin, I think the whole thing should be out of the press completely. But since it's not, this is merely a question about people's response to it). To everyone who says a Democrat would have had an abortion - pro-choice does not mean pro-abortion. It means you have the choice and the right to be educated, instead of being kept in the dark ages about what causes pregnancy and what prevents it.
What do you call bringing your uninvited children to events and charging their expenses to the state? AP INVESTIGATION: Alaska funded Palin kids' travel APUZZO, Associated Press Writers Brett J. Blackledge, Adam Goldman And Matt Apuzzo, Associated Press Writers – 34 mins ago ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Gov. As governor, Palin justified having the state pay for the travel of her daughters — Bristol, 17; Willow, 14; and Piper, 7 — by noting on travel forms that the girls had been invited to attend or participate in events on the governor's schedule. But some organizers of these events said they were surprised when the Palin children showed up uninvited, or said they agreed to a request by the governor to allow the children to attend........ "There was no valid reason for the children to be along on state business," said Knowles, a supporter of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. "I cannot recall any instance during my eight years as governor where it would have been appropriate to claim they performed state business." Isn't this just plain old theft? Or politely called fraud! We had a governor who was a woman with 3 small children, we never paid for their expenses, uninvited or otherwise! Sounds like business as usual for some Republicans! They don't mind spending YOUR money!

Why are some Republicans complaining about the media bias? towards Palin because of her daughter's pregnancy? I mean they only went crazy for like two days. Ever since that was over, they've been talking about the convention, and they said that her speech was good. If anyone are dragging out the pregnancy issue,it's the Republicans at the RNC.First of all,it was Palin who held a press conference announcing it to the media. Well,to be fair she had to because there were false vicious rumors going around the internet (sound familiar) about her own pregnancy. I guess she figured that people would eventually find out,but what do people expect? A nice small report on the pregnancy and let it go. The reason that the media was so hung up on it was because a) Palin was a name they hadn't heard before last friday b) they don't know anything about her and they find out that her oldest daughter is pregnant c) it's very scandalous for any politician's daughter to get pregnant (Democrat or Republican) Also,it was Palin and McCain who decided to have Levi join Bristol at the RNC and walk on stage together holding hands just to fire up the social conservative base. They want these two to show that they're getting married. I mean what was the point. Palin already made a press release about that and asked for privacy, but she didn't have to have Levi fly out and be with Bristol. That will obviously get more attention. Why are they dragging it out if they don't want attention? By the way,I'm one of the few liberals who recognizes the left leaning bias in the media. Having said that, they would've reported on this story if it happened to a Democratic politician @ Obama's downfall,Sarah Palin admitted that Todd had a DUI 20 years ago when she was asked questions about it during the vetting process.
Was Palin baby announcement a red herring? A stroke of genius perhaps? When the McCain campaign announced that Bristol Palin was pregnant, the media began a two-day stampede investigating the suggested hypocrisy of Palin's stance on pre-marital sex, followed by commentary on her lack of control of too many kids reflecting her ymanaging skills and a flaw in the "power-frau" image she projects. No one seemed to ask why the campaign released the non-story of a teen pregnancy in the first place? Cuz they were reading the media like a book, perhaps? Supposedly it was to quiet the rumors that Trig wasn't her baby. Yeah, right, sure it was... Well, there were several rumors and stories about Sarah Palin as folks tried to flesh out this unknown candidate for world leader. What choice did we have? McCain dropped her on us out of the "Last Frontier"! We were all his patsy and this maestro was playing us like a fiddle. Rather than ask the right questions, we played along. Then quicker than a McCain VP decision... one non-story... indirectly about Sarah Palin ruled them all- the valid and the not. It roared louder than Hurricane Gustav (I know, I know) and quieted any other discussion of Palin for two days. The stories building up since Friday's announcement ranged from very political to very personal. 1) There was Troopergate--the Alaskan Legislature investigation of Palin's possibly improper dismissal of the Public Safety Commissioner [very political] 2) There was Trig(ger)gate--That baby Trig might be teenie Bristol's uh, like, who cares? [very personal] 3) There was BabyWatergate--That Palin flew to Texas in her 8th month of an already diagnosed high-risk pregnancy to speak at a high-profile Republican conference. Hours before her speech, her water broke! What did Mrs. Right-to-life do? She waited around and delivered her speech as planned. She chose not to get examined by any of the top-ranked neo-natal specialists in the Dallas area but instead called her personal physician who okayed her travel by phone. Palin then, while in inactive labor flew to Anchorage and drove 50 miles to her "personal" physician who delivered baby Trig. The discussion of pro-life Sarah Palin risking her unborn baby and the impact of her strenous 9k round trip travel likely causing Trig's premature birth was getting started by Sunday. [very queasy] But just as the "woman's right to lose" for her career discussion was taking off, Monday's announcement came Campaign provided Juneaugate. The misdirection also kept the next step in the getting to know you phase from getting heard altogether. That was the fact that Sarah Palin called for the troops to be pulled out of Iraq months ago. [very on point] Some ticket. Just imagine, if the media hadn't taken the bait, they could be well on their way to credibly discussing the dissonance on the ticket. Am I giving the McCain campaign too much credit? We've learned from the Bush Presidency that there is perhaps more at play than coincidence here (like the recent drop in gas prices displaying our "healthy" economy)--an invisible hand pulling the strings that we the public never see until the truth gets aired years afterwards. If the announcement was strategic, it was absolutely Rove-ian and I mean it with the highest of praise. Who best knows the media than that puppetmaster? In hindsight it seems too obvious a step, after all the overcoverage of Britney, Lindsey, Miley, Jamie...all one needs to do to stop all serious scrutiny is throw some raw meat [as in a juicy teen story] to the press and watch them devour it like a pack of ...uh journalists. Too easy. Desirable outcome--- Palin looks unfairly attacked and the media loses all credibility. Bristol's pregnancy was never a story and the campaign had no real reason to release it. Well... Here we go again...and, Haven't we learned anything? OMG, thanks for the link Curiosity/Satisfaction. I hope the press gets Palin to explain her secessionism. Palin's involvement with secessionists could be because she wants to be ruler of all. Maybe McCain putting her on the ticket keeps her from taking Alaska out of the Union as well as helps to lower our oil prices!
Why Are So Many Liberals Suddenly so Conservative When it Comes to Sex? After reading post after post citing that Bristol Palin is promiscuous and "a slut" because she had a baby out of wedlock, I have to wonder what happened to free love among the liberals? All anyone knows for sure is that Bristol got pregnant at 17 by the man she thought she was going to marry. Wow, what a whore. Then, instead of having an abortion, which would have deprived Letterman of his pathetic stabs at humor at the expense of this teen, she chose to have the child and raise it with the baby's father. Oops, but he bailed. No one seems to condemn him, call him names or anything else. The fact is, Bristol acted like almost any other teenager her age by being sexually active at 17. There is no proof, or even hint, at multiple partners. The one (naturally the male) who displayed the despicable behavior gets off scott free in the press and the girl who dealt with the situation according to her beliefs is condemned and vilified. Maybe Obama is right and the liberals in this country do have a lot in common with the Muslims. At least in their views about women. When I said "so many" I was referring to the comments on this board on any post about the Letterman "jokes". I've never seen such vitriol heaped on a teenager for having sex. Again, no one is blaming the boyfriend for anything. And, again, had she chosen abortion no one would have been the wiser.
How could I get syndicated? I want to send my comic strip off to King Features. My parents never send my submission off. I was a 7th grader, and I'm 13 years old. The submission is a manila envelope containing a cover letter, 24 daily strips, and a character sheet. My strip's name is Tara and John. It's based on the "Scribble WHAT?" section in a journal called "Scribbles & Secrets". The strip is about a first grader named Tara Joy Sullivan who has a python named John. The strip is set in Sahuarita, Arizona, a hometown where I live. The main protagonist of the strip is Tara Joy Sullivan, a first grader. John is an anthropomorphic python who verbalizes his thoughts via thought bubbles. Tara's family consists of her parents, brother, sister, and grandfather. Tara's parents are named David and Olivia. Tara has an older brother named Sherman who was very naïve. Tara's older sister is Abigail, who was smart, fussy and independent. Tara's grandfather's name is Bill, and she also has a pet dog named Grey, who was free-spirited. Tara's nemesis/rival is Goldie Rankin, who has an older brother named Jim Rankin, who was also Abigail's best friend. Tara has a school teacher named Bertram Ebner. There were anthropomorphic characters besides John. The anthropomorphic characters besides John are Archie the aardvark, Jamie the gangster duck, and Ralph the singing snake, respectively. Tara adopts Archie, Jamie and Ralph. Unlike John, these three animals can speak. I don't want to waste money. I don't want my strip rejected. If my strip ever got rejected by King Features, I'm submitting the strip to other syndicates, like United Media, or Universal Press Syndicate. When I first started Tara and John, I draw on just regular paper; now I draw on Canson Bristol board to make my strips look more professional. Now tell me how to get syndicated. I don't want an answer that has nothing to do with this question. To Stephen K: No, I'm not sending the originals. I'm sending photocopies.

A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick, they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints. Every night the maintenance man would remove them, and the next day the girls would put them back. Finally the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night (you can just imagine the yawns from the little princesses). To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required. He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it. Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror. There are teachers ... and then there are educators . .i have to wonder how much longer the obama supporters will keep kissing the mirror Report Abuse --------------------------------------... I think that everyone should know not to poke a grizzly bear with a stick and wake it up because it will be very angry and attack! Now factor in a cub that’s there and you’ve really got a problem! This is what the liberal has done by attacking Sarah palin and her daughter Bristol. She may have been hurt and had some resentment about accepting the v.p.offer, however now she is angry and will fight with all her might. she is a force to be reckoned with! She is very smart and not afraid to lay it on the line. Some politicians don’t go to certain areas against their opponents out of respect for the office and the need to work with them in the future. But Sarah palin don’t she will get rid of her problems by laying it all out for the world to see and the opponent will be eliminated! So watch this lady in action now and don’t be too surprised when she takes on the media or the biggest liberal organization out there! There will be heads rolling! P.s. Obama might have been to Alaska before because he said that families are off limits he may know a thing or two about grizzly bears! Report Abuse --------------------------------------... Report
Why do republicans think it's okay for Palin and her family to get away with spending tax dollars this way? The spending spree included a $75,062.63 visit to Neiman Marcus and two stops at Saks Fifth Avenue that totaled $49,425.74, according to Cummings. Doesn't sound like "just your average hockey mom." In fact, the ... ... average American spends only about $1,874 a year on clothing and services, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The Ticket tracked down the RNC's financial disclosure records for September and October and confirmed that the RNC did indeed charge the purchases that Cummings cites (they were billed as “campaign accessories"). They include purchases made at Bloomingdale’s ($5,102.71), Barney’s ($789.72), a men's boutique called Atelier ($4,902.45) and at two baby clothing and accessory stores. It's unclear whether all of the charges were related to Palin (e-mails sent to the McCain-Palin campaign about the nature of the charges were not returned Tuesday night), but some of them almost certainly were. Newsweek reported in September that a campaign aide took Todd Palin shopping at a Saks Fifth Avenue, where he bought a new suit to wear to the Republican National Convention. And the New York Post reported that Palin gave her big speech in St. Paul in a $2,500 jacket designed by Valentino Garavani and also purchased from Saks. It is legal for campaigns to buy clothes for their candidates, but it is unusual. Most candidates running for office pay for their own clothing. Politico's Cummings reports that a review of similar records for the campaign of Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee revealed no similar spending. Meanwhile, in other Palin spending news, the Associated Press reported today that as governor of Alaksa she mischarged the state for her children's travels. Palin often took her children along while traveling, the AP reports, including to events where they were not invited. The AP says Palin's office later amended expense reports to specify that they were on official business. Here is an excerpt: The charges included costs for hotel and commercial flights for three daughters to join Palin to watch their father in a snowmobile race, and a trip to New York, where the governor attended a five-hour conference and stayed with 17-year-old Bristol for five days and four nights in a luxury hotel. In all, Palin has charged the state $21,012 for her three daughters' 64 one-way and 12 round-trip commercial flights since she took office in December 2006. In some other cases, she has charged the state for hotel rooms for the girls. Obviously there is much unwarranted expenditures here and I'm sure this isn't even BEGINNING to scrape the surface. This started LONG BEFORE the campaign obviously. And also, you don't see Michelle, Obama, Biden, or his family doing this during the campaign either. BRIAN: Tell Alaskans that wasn't THEIR tax money she was spending there...you obviously never read the above. Aimee, you must be clairvoyant. ;~) READ, people, READ....
If Palin is no friend of the environment, animals or the ecosystem, what will she do to the other 49 states? Under Palin, Alaska sued the U.S. government to stop the listing of the polar bear as a threatened species. She supports big oil, the drilling in the Artic National Wildlife Refuge and Pebble Mine which will release toxins and destroy the ecosystem of the Bristol Bay watershed. If she is willing to 'rape and pillage' the natural beauty, resources and wildlife of Alaska, what effect will she have on the other 49 states if they get into office? Lots of links on this page: http://www.grizzlybay.org/SarahPalinInfoPage.htm http://www.defenders.org/newsroom/press_releases_folder/2007/03_27_2007_judge_asked_to_shut_down_wolf_bounty_program.php http://www.time.com/time/columnist/waller/article/0,9565,170983,00.html
Why would Palin put her daughter out into the spotlight instead of just having her O.B.G.Y.N. speak? If she supposedly told the media of her daughter's pregnancy to dispell the "Down syndrome baby was actually Bristol's" conspiracy, wouldnt it have been a much easier decision to have her O.B.G.Y.N. issue a statement telling the press that the rumors were false. Trotting her underage daughter out there for political purposes when other options were open seems pretty low on the "moral" compass Recent responses "Why should she have to explain anyway? Her daughter's medical condition is no one's business" - My Point exactly....she felt the need to explain, and used her daughter's medical condition to tell everyone her business. "Why does anyone need an OBGYN to speak for themselves." I didn't say she needed it, I asked why she would use her daughter's pregnancy to speak against the rumors when other options, such as asking her OBGYN to quickly and easily dispell the rumors were possible Recent Responses: "Actually The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) prevents doctors from mentioning the medical records of individuals to the public." Good point. Then why not request the proof of her pregnancy from the Dr. It would have easily been taken care of by herself, as opposed to her daughter now being in the spotlight "it would have come out either way, crazy libs will try to use this against her (already being done obviously) so why not just bring it to the light now. you are forgetting that this isn't a bad thing, hell they getting married and bringing another life into this world. What do you suppose they did? Get the coat hanger out and get rid of the "problem"? Of course you do." I don't think you're reading my question... There is no mention of abortion, keeping the child, or her pregnancy being a "bad thing." If it "came out" later, I could care less. The question I'm asking is why use her daughters pregnancy to dispell the rumors when other possibilities focusing on the governor herself could have been used.
Sarah Palin's(McCain's VP Pick) 5th child may belong to her daughter? www.bristolpalinpregnant.com http://celebglitz.com/35566/Celebrity-Gossip/sarah-palin-5th-child-trig-bristol-palin-pregnancy.aspx http://www.nypost.com/seven/09012008/news/nationalnews/palin_admits_her_17_year_old_daughter_is_127025.htm Think about it. Why would a 44 year old FEMALE GOVERNER want to have a child during her term? Wouldn't she be too busy to be pooping out babies? I think her daugter was pregnant before and Palin didn't want that to interfere with her career so she pretended as if she was pregnant so the press wouldn't slam her for not upholding her "anit-choice aka prolife views" Plus older women or really young women aren't suppose to have babies because they can be disabled just like her supposed 5th child is.. And her daughter is pregnant again. Dumb broad, why can't she use a thing called condoms or birth control..I guess they don't make that in Alaska..Now the cat's out of the bag and the shiiieet hit the fan.Any thoughts? Discuss RDS- She's 44 and she's a Govener...She doens't have time to be popping out babies and plus she doesnt even look like she just had a baby she looks so slender and glowing...
Canadians reporters can't comment too? This is an exerpt from Canadian reporter Heather Mallick with the CBC television network. She is getting a rough ride for saying what half the people in America are already saying? What do you think? 'Turn your guns on Levi, ma'am' Palin has a toned-down version of the porn actress look favoured by this decade's woman, the overtreated hair, puffy lips and permanently alarmed expression. Bristol has what is known in Britain as the look of the teen mum, the "pramface." Husband Todd looks like a roughneck; Track, heading off to Iraq, appears terrified. They claim to be family obsessed while being studiously terrible at parenting. What normal father would want Levi "I'm a fuckin' redneck" Johnson prodding his daughter? I know that I have an attachment to children that verges on the irrational, but why don't the Palins? I'm not the one preaching homespun values but I'd destroy that ratboy before I'd let him get within scenting range of my daughter again, and so would you. Palin's e-mails about the brother-in-law she tried to get fired as a state trooper are fizzing with rage and revenge. Turn your guns on Levi, ma'am. Palin has it all, along with being vicious and profoundly dishonest. Just hours after her first convention speech, the Associated Press did a good fast listing of her untruths and I won't dwell on them. The conventioneers are nothing like the rich men who run the party, and that's the mystery of the hick vote. They'd be much better served by the Democrats. I know Thomas Frank answered this in What's the Matter with Kansas?; I know that red states vote Republican on social issues to give themselves the only self-esteem available to their broken, economically abused existence. ARLENE B --- She hasn't said a darn thing that hasn't already been posted here! can you imagine being PREGNANT AT 17? a lot of stress right there i would say, incredible amount of pressure just being pregnant at that age, now imagine that within 24 hours your pregnancy, as well as engagement to an inbred redneck, became a hot topic in the entire free world. rumors, innuendos, tabloid stories, press hounding you every where you go, wouldn't that add to your pressure and stress big time? wouldn't that make an already tough position much much tougher and more complicated? all because your mother wants to be vice president, thanks mom! before Sarah Palin ran for vp no one outside of Alaska knew, or cared who she was, now her and her teen daughters inappropriate behavior are a hot topic all over the globe. i am no Obama supporter but i think it is awful that one person's thirst for power overrides the best interest of their family by the way, i am no left winger and am not coming at this from an ideological point of view, i believe family comes first and someone who makes a decision knowing that doing it will expose their pregnant up teen to an unbelievable amount of scrutiny doesn't get my respect, no wonder Bristol Palin got this way to begin with. by the way, if i were the father, no way could i stand on stage with the guy who knocked her up with a big smile on my face like all was ok, that boy's bal*s would be shoved in his mouth and she would be on my sh*t list big time! what's your take? nope geek it isn't all his fault at all, but i can't beat her a*s the way i can his
Harri Harman Fathers4Justice roof protesters face harassment, threatening lingo & behavior charge IS dat JUST? Press Assoc. - 51 mins ago Two Fathers 4 Justice campaigners who staged a rooftop protest on Harriet Harman's home have been charged with harassment. John Paul Stanesby, 41, and Mark Harris, 46, both from Devon, were charged after they held the protest on top of the deputy Labour leader's south London house on June 8. They will appear at Tower Bridge Magistrates' Court, in London, on July 23. Stanesby and Harris scaled Ms Harman's house dressed as self-dubbed superheroes "Captain Conception" and "Cash Gordon". Harris was arrested after spending one night on the roof but Stanesby remained until he climbed down and was arrested on June 10.
